In this episode, we delve into the heart of faith-driven entrepreneurship, where work becomes worship and decisions are led by prayer. We begin with a simple tale of dropped files and the unexpected calm that followed, unraveling the deeper question of Christian entrepreneurship: what if obedience, not urgency, sets the pace? Using the wisdom of Psalm 127, Proverbs 16:9, and Philippians 4, we explore how peace follows prayer, why control often masks fear, and how allowing God to establish your steps transforms both the journey and the outcome.

In this enriching discussion, we embrace the tension every faith-focused business builder faces—desiring certainty while choosing trust. Expect to discover practical ways to invite God into your business practices. We introduce a refreshing reframe of success, shifting from asking “Is this working?” to questioning “Is this faithful?” Through a Greek word study, we explore the meaning of pistis—faith as loyal trust and allegiance—and how this perspective reshapes your approach to timelines, visibility, and provision.

For those in quiet, unseen seasons, you will find biblical encouragement to turn isolation into intimacy with God, fostering integrity and becoming a living witness through peace and presence. Experience how incorporating practices like devotions, journaling prompts, and even using essential oils and aromatherapy during your quiet time can enhance your spiritual rhythm, allowing roots to grow deep and character to strengthen before capacity expands.

If you're ready to build with God at the center—not as a slogan but as a lived practice—tune in, inhale deeply, and realign your work to His wisdom and timing. Paula Behrens:

Back in my early pastoral days, I remember juggling a mile-high stack of folders into the filing room when I felt a slight shift in my grip. And before I knew it, the entire stack was cascading onto the floor like a paper waterfall. The administrative assistant sitting nearby, eyes wide, expecting a more colorful reaction than my surprisingly calm, oh no, burst into laughter saying, Oh wow, you must really have the Spirit of Jesus in you. I would have slipped a few choice words in there. That silly moment turned into a sweet reminder of how, through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, we can choose peace even in small calamities, a lesson that has carried me through many a busy day.

Paula Behrens:

There is something deeply personal about building a business, especially as a Christian. It is not just about income or flexibility or even impact. It is about obedience. It is about stewardship. It is about listening for God's voice in a world that constantly tells you to move faster, push harder, and trust yourself above all else. When God builds a business, everything changes. The pace changes, the pressure changes, the purpose becomes clearer even when the path does not. Many believers step into entrepreneurship because they sense a nudge from God. They feel called to create something meaningful, something helpful, something that serves others. Often it begins with prayer, excitement, and hope. But somewhere along the way, faith can quietly get replaced with formulas. Prayer gets crowded out by productivity. Trust gets overshadowed by tracking numbers. And before long, we are doing God's work without actually working with God.

Paula Behrens:

Scripture reminds us in Psalm 127. 1, unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. That verse is not meant to discourage effort. It is meant to realign our focus. God never said not to build, he said not to build without Him. The tension we feel comes by trying to hold two competing ideas at the same time. We want to trust God, but we also want certainty. We want faith, but we also want control. We want peace, but we are afraid of slowing down. The world's approach to business celebrates self-made success. Scripture tells a different story. Proverbs 16.9 says, The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Planning is not the problem. Forgetting who establishes the steps is. Letting go of control is one of the hardest lessons for Christians in business. Control feels safe. Control feels responsible. Control feels wise. But control can quietly turn into self-reliance, and self-reliance slowly erodes trust.

Paula Behrens:

When God invites us into partnership, he does not ask us to stop thinking or stop planning. He asks us to stop assuming. He asks us to consult him, wait for him, and follow him, even when the direction does not align with common sense or popular advice. Think about Abraham. God promised him descendants as numerous as the stars, yet years passed with no child. Abraham and Sarah tried to help God fulfill the promise, and it created pain and division. So often in business, the struggle is not whether God is faithful, the struggle is whether we believe he will be faithful on our timeline. Prayer-led decision making is not a business strategy, it is a spiritual posture. It means inviting God into decisions before urgency does. James 1:5 tells us, if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach. That verse does not say God gives wisdom only for spiritual matters. Wisdom applies to every area of life, including work, finances, and leadership.

Paula Behrens:

When you begin making decisions through prayer instead of pressure, something shifts internally. You may not always get immediate clarity, but you often receive peace. And peace is not passive. And most of the time, peace is a sign of alignment. Philippians 4, 6 through 7 reminds us, do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Notice the order. Prayer comes first, peace follows. Navigating uncertainty with faith instead of fear is where many Christians stumble. Fear speaks loudly, fear demands quick action. Fear convinces us that waiting equals failure. But Scripture consistently shows us that waiting is often where God does his deepest work.

Paula Behrens:

Isaiah 40.31 says, But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength. Waiting is not inactivity, it is dependence, it is choosing trust over panic. Uncertainty is uncomfortable though, especially when income is involved. When your work supports your household, the stakes feel higher. But Matthew 6, 31 through 33 speaks directly to this anxiety. Jesus says, Do not be anxious. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all, but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Seeking first does not mean ignoring responsibility. It means prioritizing relationship over results. It means believing that God sees your need before you do. When God builds the business, he builds it in layers. He builds character before capacity. He builds faith before fruit. He builds roots before visibility. And often those unseen seasons feel the hardest.

Paula Behrens:

Many Christians working from home feel isolated in their calling. You may wonder how your quiet, faith-filled life actually impacts anyone else, but God does not measure influence the way the world does. He uses ordinary obedience to create extraordinary impact. Colossians 3.23 reminds us, whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not for men. That verse reframes work entirely. Your audience is not algorithms or approval. Your audience is God. This is where work becomes worship. Not because it is perfect, but because it is surrendered.

Paula Behrens:

Now let us take a moment to look at a powerful Greek word that ties faith and work together in Scripture. The word is pistis (πίστις). It is most often translated as faith, but its meaning goes far deeper than belief alone. In the New Testament, pistis (πίστις) carries the idea of trust, faithfulness, and allegiance. It is not simply agreeing that something is true, it is placing your confidence and loyalty in someone. It is relational, not abstract. Hebrews 11:1 says, Now faith, pistus (πίστις), is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. This kind of faith is active, it shapes behavior, it informs choices, it holds steady when results are delayed. In Galatians 2.20, Paul writes, The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God. Faith here is not a feeling, it is a way of living. It governs how Paul shows up each day. When we apply faith or pistus (πίστις) to our work, it means we do not just believe God can bless our efforts. We trust him enough to follow his lead. We remain faithful even when outcomes are unclear. We align our loyalty with God rather than fear or comparison. This kind of faith changes how we approach success. Instead of asking, is this working? You begin asking, is this faithful? Instead of chasing growth, you pursue obedience. And obedience always bears fruit, even when it takes time to see it.

Paula Behrens:

Building a business that nourishes both the soul and the calling requires discernment. Not every opportunity is an assignment. Not every open door is God's door. Jesus himself withdrew from crowds even when demand was high. Mark 1.35 tells us that Jesus rose early to pray. If Jesus needed time with the Father to stay aligned, how much more do we? God does not need your exhaustion to prove your devotion. He desires your trust. He invites you to work from rest, not for rest. Provision looks different when God is leading. Sometimes it comes as finances, sometimes it comes as encouragement, sometimes it comes as rest, sometimes it comes as redirection, but it always arrives on time. Second Corinthians 9.8 reminds us, and God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. Sufficiency does not mean excess, it means enough.

Paula Behrens:

When God builds the business, he uses it as a witness. Your peace becomes visible, your integrity becomes noticeable, your consistency becomes a testimony. People may not remember your words, but they will remember how you carried yourself. Reaching others for Christ does not always require a microphone or platform. It requires presence. It requires kindness, it requires faithfulness in ordinary moments. God often uses the very place you feel unseen as the place he displays his faithfulness. He works in kitchens, home offices, prayer closets, and quiet mornings. Nothing is wasted when it is surrendered. If you've been carrying fear about the future, I want to remind you of Proverbs 3, 5 through 6, which says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight. Now, straight paths do not always mean easy paths, they mean directed paths.

Paula Behrens:
