What if serenity became your strongest witness? We open the Bible and our senses to explore how peace moves from a nice idea to a lived reality—one breath, one verse, one small practice at a time. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 2:14–15, Philippians 4:6–7, and Isaiah 26:3, we unpack how a steadfast heart grows when prayer, gratitude, and trust meet simple sensory anchors that redirect attention to Jesus in the middle of real life.

You’ll hear a moving story of a “peace reset” where tension gave way to tears, ease, and focus—not because life got simpler, but because Christ’s presence stood guard over mind and heart. We talk through how frankincense can recall Christ’s kingship, lavender can cue rest like Psalm 23’s green pastures, and bright citrus can spark joy and gratitude. These tools aren’t magic; they’re gentle cues that help you return to God quickly when the day crowds in. Along the way, we offer short affirmations rooted in scripture, plus practical rhythms you can try in minutes: a five‑minute morning cue with your Bible, a midday breath-and-prayer pause, and a calm evening wind‑down that pairs God’s promises with slow exhalations.

If you’re longing to carry Christ’s peace into your home, work, and relationships, this conversation offers a warm path forward—clear, doable, and grounded in the Word. For deeper support, we invite you to the Aroma of Christ coaching hour, a one‑on‑one session that blends scripture, prayer, and sensory anchors to design a routine that fits your season and helps you breathe again spiritually. Paula Behrens:

Today's episode is going to be a slow intentional exhale. You don't have to do anything but listen and let the words wash over you like a prayer as you realize that God's peace is as close as the air you breathe. You guessed it. We're going to talk about essential oils as sensory anchors for spiritual practices because God gave us our senses as a doorway to his presence. So take a deep breath. This is your time to step into serenity. What does it mean for us to carry the aroma of Christ into our busy life as wives, mothers, grandmothers, employees, business owners, caretakers, pastors, and everything in between? Second Corinthians chapter 2, verse 14 through 15 says, But thanks be to God who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. Paul is painting a vivid picture here. He says, Wherever we go, whatever we do, we carry a fragrance, and not just any fragrance, we carry the aroma of Christ Himself. Think about that for a moment. Paul's words in 2 Corinthians about being the aroma of Christ connect us back to temple worship.

Paula Behrens:

In the Old Testament, incense rose as a sweet smelling sacrifice, a sign of prayers lifted to God. The fragrance filled the holy place as a visible, tangible, sensory sign of devotion. Our lives are now that incense. Every prayer you whisper while folding laundry, every scripture you meditate on in a carpool line, every act of kindness you offer in the workplace, these rise like a fragrance to God. Your serenity itself becomes an offering, an act of worship that says, I trust you, Lord, more than I trust my to-do list.

Paula Behrens:

And here's where your senses can help. God created your body and soul as an integrated whole. The smell of frankincense might remind you of Christ's birth and the gift brought by the magi. The sweetness of lavender can point you to Jesus, the shepherd who makes you lie down in green pastures. Citrus oils can awaken you to the joy of the Lord, lifting your spirit when the weight of life presses in. Now these oils are not magical. They are not the source of serenity, but they are beautiful tools, anchors that tie your physical senses to your spiritual practices, drawing your mind back to Christ.

Paula Behrens:

I remember walking with a woman through an experience that I now call the Peace RESET. She came to me overwhelmed, her thoughts spinning in a hundred different directions. She told me she couldn't focus long enough to pray, much less hear God's voice. In just a short time together, as we gently combine prayer, scripture, and the aroma, her shoulders begin to relax, tears stream down her face, and she whispered, For the first time in months, I feel calm. I feel like I can breathe again. That's what happens when the clutter clears, and Christ's peace rises to the surface. Later in today's episode, I'll tell you how you can experience this same peace reset yourself. It's a bonus technique I offer alongside the Aroma of Christ coaching hour, and it's designed to help you release the mental clutter, emotional weight, and spiritual distractions that keep you from resting fully in Christ. Think of it as a reset button for your soul, helping you to step into serenity so that you can carry it with you into your busy world.

Paula Behrens:

Philippians chapter 4, verses 6 through 7 is one of the most quoted passages on peace, and for good reason. It says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your request to God, and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. This passage doesn't promise that our circumstances will go away. It promises that peace will stand guard. Peace becomes a shield at the door of your mind and your heart. It doesn't always make sense to the world, but it is real and unshakable. Isaiah chapter 26, verse 3 adds, You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.

Paula Behrens:

Perfect peace doesn't mean a perfect life, it means a steady heart. When your trust is rooted in the unshakable character of God, peace becomes the soil beneath your feet. And the psalmist writes in chapter 34, verse 8, saying, Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. God invites you to experience him with all your senses. Serenity isn't just something you think about, it's something you can feel, see, taste, and breathe. It's embodied worship. When you live as the aroma of Christ, you carry serenity into every room you enter. Your presence changes the atmosphere. People may not be able to name it, but they notice it. Your calm in the storm makes them wonder about the source of your peace. Being the aroma of Christ is not about perfection, it's about surrender. It's about daily choosing to let Jesus fill you so fully that his fragrance naturally flows out of you. And in that flow, you find serenity, not because you did less, but because you trusted more.

Paula Behrens:

I want to pause and offer you some affirmations you can use in your own aroma of Christ experience. If you'd like, grab your favorite calming oil and breathe it in as you speak these aloud. I inhale the peace of Christ and I exhale my worries. The Lord is my shepherd. He restores my soul. Jesus, your presence is my place of rest. I carry the fragrance of Christ into my home, my work, and my relationships. The joy of the Lord is my strength, and his peace guards my heart. These words are not empty, they are rooted in Scripture. As you speak these affirmations aloud, let them shape your heart, your breath, and your posture toward God. If you want to go deeper, My Peace RESET offers a guided experience to clear mental clutter and step fully into the serenity of Christ. Think of it as a spiritual refresh button for your soul.

Paula Behrens:

Okay, let's get practical. Imagine your morning routine. Instead of rushing straight to your phone or your list of tasks, what if you diffused a fragrance in your home and sat with your Bible for just five minutes? What if that fragrance became your cue that it's time to breathe, to listen, to invite Christ to set the pace for your day? Or think about the middle of the day when tension runs high. Instead of pressing through, what if you paused, placed a drop of essential oil in your hands, breathed deeply, and prayed, Lord, I trust you. You are my serenity. In that small moment, you are retraining your body and soul to find peace in Christ. At night, when your thoughts race, what if you had a rhythm of breathing in God's promises, letting Scripture and the scent intertwine as reminders that He alone makes you dwell in safety? Serenity is not a luxury. It is not something you'll experience once life slows down.

Paula Behrens:

Serenity is your inheritance in Christ. Jesus said in John chapter 14, verse 27, peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. His peace is already yours. Before we close, I want to extend a personal invitation. If what we've talked about today resonates with you, if you are longing for more serenity in your life, or if you'd love guidance in connecting your spiritual practices with calming sensory anchors, I invite you to book an Aroma of Christ Coaching Hour with me. In this one-on-one time, we'll pause together, we'll invite the Holy Spirit to reset your heart with peace, and I'll help you create a personalized plan that fits your season of life using scripture, prayer, and sensory practices to anchor you in serenity.

Paula Behrens:

And there's something extra, a unique aroma freedom technique designed to help you release the mental clutter, emotional weight, and spiritual distractions that are keeping you from resting fully in Christ. This guided reset gently clears away what's blocking your peace so you can step into the calm, focused presence of God. And this is something I still do myself from time to time when the stresses of the day try to steal my joy. Many women find that this peace reset is exactly what they need to finally release anxiety, embrace God's presence, and walk in peace, no matter what their schedules look like. Okay, friend, let me pray with you. Father, I lift up everyone listening right now. You see their responsibilities, their weariness, their longing for serenity. You promise peace that surpasses understanding. And so I ask you to pour that peace into their listening hearts. Help my sisters and brothers in Christ breathe in deeply of your presence. Help them to carry the aroma of Christ into every space they enter today. Guard their minds and their hearts and teach all of us to rest in you. In the precious and holy name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen.

Paula Behrens:
