68 | Biblical Faith: Is it Still Relevant for Christians Today?

Paula Behrens | Christian Coach, Pastor, Certified Aroma Freedom Practitioner Season 2

Can a 2,000-year-old faith still guide us through today's complex world? This question sits at the heart of our exploration into the timeless relevance of biblical faith for modern Christians.

Faith stands as a guiding star for believers—a steady beacon shining through life's uncertainties. Like a ship navigating tumultuous waters yet remaining on course by following distant stars, our faith provides direction when everything else seems unpredictable. This episode delves into how the ancient principles of faith described in Hebrews 11 continue to transform lives today through stories of ordinary people who accomplished extraordinary things through trust in God.

We journey through the "Hall of Faith," examining how figures like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and Moses offer timeless lessons for contemporary spiritual journeys. Abel teaches us about sincere devotion. Enoch reminds us to walk closely with God daily. Noah demonstrates obedience despite ridicule. Abraham shows us how to step out boldly into the unknown. These stories, though thousands of years old, provide practical wisdom for navigating modern challenges with courage and conviction.

The episode also unpacks practical ways to strengthen your faith: regular Bible study that plants you beside refreshing streams, daily prayer that maintains divine connection, gratitude practices that shift your perspective, and community engagement that provides crucial support. We explore how facing doubts head-on, memorizing scripture, and studying Jesus's example can deepen your spiritual roots in today's fast-paced world.

Whether you're new to faith or seeking to revitalize your spiritual journey, this episode offers both inspiration from ancient heroes and practical strategies for modern living.

Faith. It has the power to anchor our lives and elevate our spirits. Imagine a ship sailing through the vast expanse of the ocean. The waters beneath are unpredictable, sometimes calm and inviting, at other times tumultuous and foreboding. Yet the ship sails on, guided unwaveringly by the distant stars above. Faith in many ways is like the guiding star for Christians, providing direction and hope even in the darkest nights. It's a beacon that shines brightly in the hearts of believers, offering a steady course when everything else seems uncertain. Before we seek to answer the question, Is biblical faith still relevant for Christians today?, let me share a quick story that I think will be helpful.

Paula Behrens:

A few years ago, I attended a convention surrounded by thousands of passionate people just like you and me, all driven by the mission of incorporating a holistic path to wellness for mind, body and spirit. During one of the breaks, I met someone who shared with me her incredible story. She told me about how she began her wellness journey during a particularly challenging time in her life. She was going through a very difficult situation, struggling to find her footing and battling stress that seemed insurmountable. What struck me about her story wasn't just her resilience, but the unwavering faith she drew from her Christian beliefs. She explained how every morning, she would take a moment during her quiet time to breathe in the aroma of frankincense while she turned to God in prayer, and how this routine helped her reconnect with her faith and find inner peace amidst chaos. Her unwavering faith and dedication to stay close to God, supported by her journey with essential oils, provided her with the strength to move forward. This newfound routine seamlessly wove itself into the fabric of her spiritual journey, becoming an essential part of her daily practice.

Paula Behrens:

This story resonated deeply with me because it beautifully illustrates how faith isn't just a concept. It's a living, breathing part of our lives that can sustain us through the toughest of times. So as we explore the historical facts about biblical faith, let's keep in mind that it's more than just belief. It's a transformative power that shapes our journey and enhances our well-being. Without further ado, let's dive right in and explore the profound essence of faith. Today. We'll uncover how stories from individuals in the Bible can be woven into the tapestry of the Christian journey. We'll explore its roots, its expression and how it continues to inspire millions to navigate their personal journey with courage and conviction.

Paula Behrens:

What is faith? That's the question. Faith is often described as a confident and unwavering belief in God, his promises and His teachings. Various sources provide definitions and descriptions of faith, offering insights into its nature and significance. Faith is essential for our spiritual relationship. Believing in the existence of God and His promises to reward those who seek Him are central aspects of genuine faith. True faith is not just believing. It is evidenced by taking action. Faith should lead us to a transformed life and a desire to live in accordance with spiritual principles.

Paula Behrens:

Hebrews 11 highlights numerous individuals whose stories can guide us in our own journey of faith. Through their lives, exceptional trust and steadfast obedience to God, these individuals serve as timeless examples. It's amazing how their stories continue to encourage and inspire us in our own spiritual journeys, even today. Examples include the lives of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah and of course, Moses and his parents are in there and other faith-filled Israelites. And then there's Jesus.

Paula Behrens:

Abel's story teaches us about offering our best to God with a sincere heart. His sacrifice was accepted because of his faith. Remember that? In our spiritual journeys we should learn to give our wholehearted devotion, offering our talents, time and resources for a higher purpose, just as Abel did. We prove our faith by what we do..

Paula Behrens:

Faith is not based on human reasoning or wisdom, but it's grounded in the supernatural or miraculous power and sovereignty of God. Overall faith is characterized by trust, conviction and confidence in God's Word and His teachings. It is a gift that leads to a transformed life and a deepening spiritual relationship. Genuine faith is not stagnant. Rather, it is active and dynamic, prompting God's faithful to live in obedience and dependence on his grace.

Paula Behrens:

And then there's Enoch. His unique relationship serves as a reminder to walk closely with God. His faithfulness and the fact that he was taken without experiencing death is a testimony to the rewards of diligently seeking God first in our lives.

Paula Behrens:

Noah's faithfulness in building an ark, despite facing ridicule and doubt from others, illustrates the importance of trusting and obeying God's commands even when circumstances seem unlikely or difficult. Faith is described as having a firm assurance or confidence in the things we hope for, even though we may not physically see them yet..

Paula Behrens:

Faith is not something that originates from within us. Rather, it is a response to spiritual teachings. By hearing and internalizing these teachings, our faith is strengthened and nurtured. Faith is a means through which we receive grace. It is not achieved through our own efforts or merits, but it is a gift granted to us by God's grace. The Hall of Faith highlights remarkable individuals whose unwavering trust and dedication are exemplary, guiding us in our own spiritual journey.

Paula Behrens:

Abraham, recognized as the foundational figure of faith, teaches us to step out boldly. His willingness to follow God's call despite uncertainties encourages us to trust God's lead in our own lives.

Paula Behrens:

Sarah's unwavering belief in God's promise, despite personal limitations, highlights the importance of holding firm to God's assurances, even when faced with doubt.

Paula Behrens:

Faith is not only believing in God, but also actively trusting and surrendering our lives to Him. It involves inviting the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and direct our daily living. Faith is foundational in our walk with God. It's about believing in His very existence and trusting that he rewards those who earnestly seek Him. True faith comes alive through our actions. It's not just about what we believe, but about how we live.

Paula Behrens:

Take the parents of Moses for example who courageously hid him to protect him from a king's harsh decree. Their bold action reveals the impact of faith-driven decisions and the significance of taking steps of obedience even in challenging circumstances.

Paula Behrens:

And then there's Moses' himself whose life demonstrates the choice between temporary pleasures of the world and the eternal rewards of following God. His decision to identify with God's people rather than enjoy the fleeting pleasures of a prosperous life in Egypt reflects the need to prioritize our faith over worldly attractions.

Paula Behrens:

A genuine faith transforms our lives, driving us to align with God's principles and express our beliefs through what we do. This faith isn't anchored in human wisdom. It stands firm in the powerful, miraculous nature of God. It's a gift that enriches our lives and grows our relationship with him urging us to live actively and faithfully in response to God's grace and mercy.

Paula Behrens:

Rahab remember her? Residing in Jericho, she displayed incredible faith by protecting the Israelite spies and putting her trust in the God of Israel. Her story emphasizes this transforming power of God's mercy and how faith can emerge from the most unexpected places.

Paula Behrens:

In the tapestry of fa ith, the stories of Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah stand as powerful testaments to overcoming weakness through divine strength. Each of these individuals face seemingly insurmountable challenges. Gideon's transformation from a timid thrasher to a mighty warrior, Barak's victory over Sisera despite initial hesitation, Samson's final act of strength despite his physical blindness, and Jephthah's rise from an outcast to a leader all showcase how faith can transform human frailty into divine triumph. These narratives remind us that when we lean into God's strength, even our greatest weaknesses can become the foundation for miraculous achievements.

Paula Behrens:

And let's take a moment to reflect on David, whose unwavering faith serves as a profound example for all of us. Renowned as a man after God's own heart, David's life illustrates the power of sincere repentance and trust. Despite his shortcomings, he consistently sought God's grace and guidance, demonstrating the enduring importance of maintaining a humble and contrite heart in our own spiritual journeys. Like David, we can find solace in the understanding that true faith is not about perfection, but about continuously turning to God with a genuine spirit of humility and devotion.

Paula Behrens:

Throughout history, various other unnamed prophets have faced immense persecution, suffering, and even martyrdom for their unwavering faith. These brave individuals stood firm in proclaiming God's truth, often at great personal cost. Their remarkable courage and resilience in the face of opposition serve as a powerful example for us Today.

Paula Behrens:

Above all, we are reminded to look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. His life, death and resurrection exemplify the ultimate act of faith and obedience and the result thereof. The boundless love and steadfast faith that Jesus displayed serve as a guiding light, inspiring us to embrace his example. By keeping our eyes fixed on him, we are encouraged to walk in faith and reflect his love in every aspect of our lives.

Paula Behrens:

The people of faith form a rich tapestry of inspiration and guidance for believers in their own personal walk with the Lord even today. Each person's story offers valuable lessons, from offering our best to God and walking closely with H im to trusting His promises, stepping out in faith and enduring trials with perseverance.

Paula Behrens:

A s we navigate the complexities of life, let us draw strength and encouragement from these heroes of faith, recognizing that their journeys were not without challenges and flaws. By emulating their trust and obedience, we can deepen our own relationship with God, confident that he who enabled them to overcome will also empower us, too, in our own lives. Let their stories resonate in your heart, motivating you to live boldly for Christ and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Paula Behrens:
